Infectious Disease Trends in Renfrew County and District
The Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act lists approximately 70 infectious diseases that must be reported to local health units. These are referred to as Diseases of Public Health Significance (DOPHS). This dashboard provides case counts and rates for all DOPHS reported to Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) over the past 10 years (2014-2023). Annual rate comparisons with Ontario overall are also included. In this dashboard, DOPHS are classified into the following disease categories:
- Enteric Disease and Food-Borne Disease
- Respiratory Disease
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Blood-Borne Infections (BBIs)
- Vaccine Preventable Disease
- Vectorborne Disease
- Zoonotic Disease
- Other Disease
This dashboard was created for local health care providers, community partners, and the public to enhance understanding of local infectious disease trends and to support evidence-informed decision making related to infectious disease.
Respiratory Illness Data Summary
The Respiratory Illness Data Summary provides an overview of the current respiratory season in Renfrew County and District, including:
- Weekly values for five respiratory illness-related indicators
- Classification of weekly levels (e.g., low, moderate, high, or very high)
- Comparison of weekly levels with the previous week (e.g., lower, similar, or higher)
The data sources used in the Respiratory Illness Data Summary are dynamic reporting systems that allow for ongoing updates. The data reported in the current summary represent a snapshot at the time of extraction and may differ from previous and/or subsequent data summary updates. This summary table will be updated weekly on Mondays (except on statutory holidays) and presents information for the week before last.
Respiratory Illness Trends in Renfrew County and District
This dashboard provides historical trends for the following respiratory illness-related indicators in Renfrew County and District (RCD):
- Outbreaks in healthcare and congregate institutions
- Hospital bed occupancy due to respiratory illness
- Case counts and rates (for influenza and COVID-19)
- Percent positivity (for influenza and COVID-19)
- Respiratory-related emergency department (ED) visits
This dashboard was created for local health care providers, community partners, and the public to enhance understanding of local respiratory illness trends and to support evidence-informed decision making related to respiratory illness. This dashboard presents historic data from the 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023 respiratory seasons (which run September-August), as well as data for the 2023-2024 season up until June 1, 2024.
Substance Use-Related Harms in Renfrew County and District
The purpose of this dashboard is to provide individuals and community partners with an overview of current substance use-related trends in Renfrew County and District such as:
- Opioid overdose-related emergency department visits to local hospitals
- Opioid-related deaths
- Suspect drug poisoning deaths
This dashboard will be updated quarterly (e.g., every 3 months) or as data becomes available. Data for recent years is considered preliminary data and subject to change in future updates. Data is primarily sourced from the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NARCS) via the Ministry of Health.
